TECHNICAL ISSUES
How Your Donation in 2006 Will
Help SC Entrepreneurs Grow Our State’s
Knowledge Economy
We
want to make you aware of an opportunity for individuals and
businesses to have a direct impact on South Carolina’s competitiveness
agenda and the efforts underway toward building a Knowledge
Economy within our state. It should cost nothing out-of-pocket
and will result in excellent exposure and recognition for participants.
SC Launch!,
a joint venture of SCRA and the Research Foundations of Clemson
University, the Medical University of South Carolina, the University
of South Carolina, was formed to implement the Innovation Centers
Act, as amended by the Industry Partners Act.
SC Launch!
supplies qualified entrepreneurs and researchers with key tools
for success, providing high-potential companies with a mix of
up-front counseling, facilities, seed funding of up to $200,000
in loans or investments, and ongoing mentoring. By forming partner
alliances with corporations, industry consortia, local and regional
incubators and economic development organizations, SC Launch!
delivers service and support for its clients.
SCRA is spending $12 million of
its own strategic cash reserves and leveraging its other resources
in this effort to develop high-growth companies, generate Knowledge
Economy jobs, enhance South Carolina’s quality of life and provide
strong prospects for all South Carolinians in the new economy.
The Industry Partner Act was passed
in June of this year. It provides a source for ongoing funding
support and investment in entrepreneurial companies within South
Carolina. The Industry Partner Act allows individual or corporate
SC Launch! donors to take a South Carolina tax credit against
income taxes, insurance premium taxes and certain license fees
for 100% of the amount of the donation. Since the contributions
are made to a 501(c)(3), deductibility for federal tax purposes
would allow dollar-for-dollar recovery of amounts donated.
If
you are interested in learning more about becoming a participant
in this exciting initiative and receiving the appropriate state-wide
recognition for doing so, contact Dave McNamara at SCRA. He
can be reached at
mcnamara@scra.org or 803-733-9076.
